McQueen is known for his shock and awe shows and is the youngest designers to achieve the title "British Designer of the Year", which he won four times between 1996 and 2003. McQueen is hardly to be called a failure for dropping out of school at age 16 to pursue a career in fashion design, learning tailoring and pattern making first hand. In 2004, he designed his first menswear collection and was named British Menswear Designer of the Year by the British Fashion Council. McQueen's collections often borrow from previous centuries while adding new tailoring, with a cutting edge style. He has a faithful celebrity following such as David Bowie and Prodigy's Keith Flint. His fall 2005 & Fall 2009 collections have Gothic undertones that are worth studying.
The following awards have recognized Alexander McQueens achievement in fashion: British Designer of the year 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2003, International Designer of the Year by The Council of Fashion Designer's of America (CFDA) in 2003, A Most Excellent Commander of The British Empire (CBE) by her Majesty the Queen in 2003, and the Fashion and Grooming Awards - Fashion Directors Award 2007 for McQ. Menswear designer of the Year by GQ in September 2007.

Even though he didn't win American Idol in May of 2009, he finished as the runner-up and has been discovered as one of the best new voices on the music scene. Adam Lambert is bringing the glamour back to rock. So, why is he so different? Lambert has a voice that can belt out the notes AND seamlessly transition from one pitch to another that flows like silk. Lambert has trained his voice well, and has had tons of practice from performing since childhood. He has appeared in musicals, cabaret as well as rock shows. Not only that, but Adam Lambert is a huge fan of gothic clothing, fashion and style.
After high school, he moved to Orange County California to attend college. After only 5 weeks, he had a change of heart, and decided to go after his real dream of performing.
By 2004, Lambert was making a name for himself through small parts around the Los Angeles area. He played a small role in The Ten Commandments at the Kodak Theatre alongside film actor Val Kilmer. He also began performing at The Zodiac Show. During his time with Zodiac, Lambert wowed fellow performers with his vocal range where he began writing his own music. His "Crawl Through Fire," was written in collaboration with Madonna's guitarist Monte Pittman. His incredible vocal range will put him in a league with some of the best singers of the rock era.
“Tracks of My Tears.” , “Ring of Fire” , “Play That Funky Music.” were just some of the songs he sang on American idol. His performance of the 2001 Gary Jules' arrangement of the song "Mad World" earned a standing ovation from the show's harshest critic, Simon Cowell. His vocal range, along with his jet-black hair and heavy mascara, earned him comparisons to glam rockers like Freddie Mercury and Gene Simmons.
Dita Von Teese is a beauty well known for her fascination with the cinema and retro style of the 40s. Von Teese developed a fascination with films and Hollywood actresses of the 40's, Luisa Casati, Anna Piaggi, and Isabella Blow and Betty Grable, an actress that she frequently cites as her favorite. Today Von Teese is best known for her burlesque routines and her modeling. She was trained as a ballet dancer from an early age, and danced solo at age thirteen for a local ballet company. Although she originally wanted to be a ballerina, Von Teese incorporates this element into her burlesque shows. The fashion world has taken her spin on retro style and she has even appeared on a number of best-dressed lists. Von Teese has appeared in Vanity Fair, Vogue, Elle, and international issues of nearly every fashion magazine. Von Teese states that she never uses a stylist. "The one time I hired a stylist, they picked up a pair of my 1940s shoes and said, "These would look really cute with jeans." I immediately said, 'You’re out of here.'" She does her own make-up, and dyes her naturally blonde hair black at home.
